Beyond the pandemic: learning from local leadership

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of leadership at community, city, national, and global levels like never before. In many low and middle income countries, local development leaders emerged as a result of international partners and donors exiting at the start of the pandemic. But devolved leadership and local decision-making has also been in the spotlight in the UK and across Europe with lockdown rules differing from city to city. What lessons can we learn from emerging spaces of local leadership in the pandemic for tackling global challenges?

Chair Professor David Hudson, Director of the Developmental Leadership Programme will be joined by the following panel of experts:

  • Professor Chris Roche - La Trobe University, Director of Institute for Human Security and Social Change
  • Professor Christopher Pietroni - Director of Birmingham Leadership Institute
  • Dr Shabnum Sarfraz - Social Sector Planning Commission, Government of Pakistan
  • Dr Carolyn Wilkins - Chief Executive Oldham MBC, Accountable Officer NHS Oldham CCC, and Director for Contain, NHS Test and Trace
